Kokanee Salmon

It's on fire the fishing can't get any better than this! The Kokanee salmon are averaging 14 inches with a few going 15 inches at Whiskeytown Lake. From the bridge Amoy and Whiskey Creek has been the best spots. Pink and Orange hoochies have been working the best.

Catching Limits at Whiskeytown Reservoir

It's been unbelievable the bite is great with Kokanee salmon averaging 14 to 15 inches with a couple brown trout today. We are trolling 15 to 35 feet using pink and orange hoochies. It seems like the entire lake is doing well. Bass fishing on Whiskytown Lake has not taking off yet I would say April.

Kokanee Salmon

Another limit day with everyone catching some beautiful Kokanee salmon. This season is starting out to be one of the best seasons this early. By May and June we will see 17 and 18 inch fish out of Whiskeytown Lake. The fish start out around 1O feet in the morning and move down to 35 feet by 11am. Black and white during overcast mornings and pink and orange during sunny days.

Kokanee Salmon

The best Kokanee salmon fishing I've seen in years!! And the most boats I've seen on a Friday out at Whiskeytown Lake! 24 boats on the lake at one time. That's crazy. I can't really say much more the fish are biting all over the lake with just about everything you throw at them. Depths from 10 to 45 feet seems to be working for all fishermen.

Kokanee Madness

Rainy day triple hook ups! I couldn't keep the downrigger weights in the water as soon as I dropped in we had fish on. Mark, Will, and Cam got their taste of Kokanee salmon madness. Top lining till 11am was the trick today on Whiskeytown Lake!

Giant Rainbow Trout

Wow it's amazing when we have the weather warm up the fish love to bite. Today was some of the biggest fish I've seen this season the big hatch started early in the morning and went on till around 930 am. When the bugs stopped the trout bit like piranhas. Both eggs and roe clusters worked all day. Biggest fish was caught by Allen it was 25 inches. Then Marty caught a 23 inch giant. One of the best trout bites I've had this season on the Sacramento River.

Kokanee Salmon Fishing

Today I fished some of my great local clients and had another fantastic fishing day on Whiskeytown Lake. The bite started a little later due to the wind but once the wind quit it turned on and we couldn't keep the downriggers in the water. We are starting to catch bigger Kokanee salmon every week with 16 inch fish showing every day .25 feet deep with chrome and gold flashers have been working best. The top water bite has also really kicked early morning. I've been working the Brandy Creek side to Oak bottom.

Kokanee Salmon Fishing

Thursday morning Kokanee fishing out on Whiskeytown Lake was another awesome no wind morning. We fished out in front of Brandy Creek and it was a fantastic bite. Traffic was lots of boats on the water by 7 am with most boat spreading around. Top water bite the first few hours with the bite moved down a little lower later on.
