Steelhead Salmon Combos

It's steelhead time! We are multi-tasking and are fishing for steelhead while we are salmon fishing. These fish are hard fighting and fantastic eating. There have been lots of kings in the river and giant fish are being caught daily.

Steelhead Fishing the Sacramento River

We are getting some really nice steelhead when we fish for them. Light tackle fishing is a blast with high numbers of rainbow trout in the mist. We are seeing lots of big salmon in the river with 6 - 10 fish a day. Rain is in the forecast so hopefully, that cooler weather will push some fresh kings up our way.

Giant Kings Every Day!!

I have to say we are catching big king salmon every day and most days our average size of fish is 2O pounds! These salmon fight like no other fish and they will make your holiday smoked salmon taste unbelievable. Drifting Roe and back trolling lure has worked best most days. The steelhead fishing continues to improve daily!

Salmon Fishing

The cooler weather is here! We finally had some much needed rain this week. We are still getting giant king salmon. Bob got this 35 pound king today drifting bait with light tackle. There have been some big fish this year and we expect even bigger king salmon to come.

Wild Rainbow Fishing

Salmon fishing has gotten a little slower since the big rains as most of the fish moved up the creeks and to the upper part of the river. I will be fishing the Redding area for trout and steelhead for the next few days until the weekend.

Super Rainbow Trout Bite!!

I've been on the rainbow trout since the lower stretch of the Sacramento River was on hold for king salmon due to muddy water. This kind of water will delay chrome salmon and bring the kings up the river this week. I will keep everyone in the loop all this week!

Giant Trout and Steelhead on the Bite

With that big rain we got a few days ago the salmon have moved up river into the Redding area, as well as the hatchery. Trout fishing is off the charts with the average fish coming in at 16 - 18 inches on average. Some fish are even in the 20 inch range which would make them considered to be a steelhead. There are more fish coming up the river, it just might take a little time!

Trout and Steelhead Fishing

This morning we still had some dirty water. The water is coming down from Shasta Lake from the low banks that haven't seen rain and big downpours like this in a while. We are still wanting to fish for salmon but we aren’t seeing high numbers of king salmon daily like we are used to. I thought we would get some big schools of fish coming up but it hasn't happened yet.

Wild Rainbows and Winter Steelhead

Today, the water level really dropped quite a bit which muddied up the water even more than yesterday. The trout seemed to climb up today making fishing a real challenge. There are still no signs of king salmon in sight.
