Easter Trout Fishing on the Sacramento River

What a day to spend on the river, it was unbelievable fishing! We landed fish after fish from Redding to Anderson with the largest fish around 23 inches. Drifting eggs and casting small spoons was the way we fished today. With the weather getting warmer, the fishing is wide open.

Spotted Bass on Shasta Lake

The bass fishing continues to get better and better. Today's trip was fish after fish with the average bass going 14 inches. The fish are just about on the bank, with, I would say, around 15 feet on average. Use live crayfish and minnows for bait and you can't wrong. Pit Arm and Squaw Arm are the top two spots.

We are catching limits daily on the lake as fish are moving closer to the bank's everyday. Fish are also getting bigger, with many fish in the 14 inch range. Wacky Worms Neds and Tubes are the hot baits. Pit Arm in the trees has been awesome as well as up the Squaw Arm.

Striped Bass on the Sacramento River in Colusa

Today, Dave and Jeff caught some nice fish down the river below the Tisdale boat ramp. The fish are starting to arrive and are coming up from the Delta. Live minnows and casting plastic worms are the best way currently to catch these striped bass. Most fishermen are driving up and down the river looking for nets up in the air, but I suggest fishing where you feel comfortable and keeping your boat in the water as your large motor will spook striped bass in this low of water.

Today was a great day of fishing! The guys landed over 25 Bass and 1 big rainbow trout. Fishing up the Pit River was off the charts. Most all fish were keeping size. Plastic worms drop shots and tubes. Remember light tackle and fluorocarbon line 6/8 pound test.

Trout and Bass on Shasta Lake

The weather is getting warmer and warmer and the fishing is picking up! It’s been great at Shasta Lake for bass and trout. We are also picking up Kokanee salmon on the lake for the first time as they are showing themselves more and more. Bass are hitting all over the lake with most of the fish being close to the bank. The larger bass seem to be in the deeper areas and the larger numbers are on the bank. I've been finding some shad up the Pit Arm. Seems when the boat traffic mellows out the fish move into the center of the pit. We are using shad pattern lures like rip baits and crankbaits. Worming of course is always a go-to. Rainbow trout are biting up in big backbone arm and also the mouth of the Sacramento Arm.

Striped Bass on the Sacramento River

We are catching some decent Striped Bass on Sacramento River out of Colusa drifting minnows. Some of the best fishing is from Knights Landing to Colusa State Park. Night fishing is really good for bigger fish but during the day the numbers are the best. Black rubber worms casting towards the bank work really well and also big swim baits.

Big Spotted Bass on Shasta Lake

Wow, we are really catching some nice spotted bass fishing on Shasta Lake! The last couple of days, the bigger fish have been moving closer to the bank. The early morning bite has been wide open while we are throwing plastic worms, crankbaits, and spinner baits. The entire lake is fishing really good no mattter where you are. The number of fish caught a day can be from 2O to 30 fish a day.

Colusa Striped Bass Fishing on the Sacramento River

Fishing on the Sacramento River today was not bad considering the boat and fishing traffic. The fish that we are catching are big and really scrappy. The water has dropped the last few days and makes the bite a little difficult. Afternoon fishing is also fishing well since all boat traffic has slowed down.

Striped Bass on the Sacramento River

Boy, what a weekend! There was a lot of boat traffic on the river. We still managed to scramble out a few decent size striped bass. Drifting live bait has been the most popular way to catch these hard-fighting fish. Things should improve now that the crazy crowds have died down.

Striped Bass Colusa California

Today the fishing on the Sacramento River out of Colusa really turned around. It seemed like a pretty large school of fish moved up the river. We had action all morning with some decent size stripers.

Striped Bass on the Sacramento River in Colusa

Today's trip was very action-packed. We caught striped bass all morning releasing many small fish. Mike did catch a 5 pound large mouth bass, casting swimbaits. Fishing has improved a little since the water has stabilized. This is the time for lots of action drifting minnows and casting swim baits.

Rainbow Trout on the Sacramento River

Today's fishing on the Sacramento River was epic!! We couldn't fish anywhere on the river and not get a bite. It seemed like the fish hadn't been fished for all season. We caught our first 15 on Roe and moved over to live crickets later on. Our fish averaged from 17 - 23 inches. The Redding stretch fished the best and the Anderson waters also fished well with spinners and crickets.

Striped Bass on the Sacramento River

We are having to work a little for these striped bass. The bite has changed from last week’s large numbers to smaller fish and fewer bites. I'm fishing from Colusa down and will continue to fish bass and river trout throughout the month. Drifting minnows and casting lures are the most popular methods.

It's up and down fishing with a lack of water 💦. The fishing is normally great around the Colusa area but the fish have seemed to move south. We are casting lures and drifting minnows. Julia caught this nice big male striped bass today using cut bait.

April 27, 2021

Striped Bass Fishing in Colusa California

Fishing has improved over the last few days. I've been catching two keepers per rod with many undersized fish. Fish have been averaging 18 - 22 inches with an occasional 27 inch striped bass. With the water being so low, we are at least seeing fish in the system. We have been drifting minnows and up trolling lures.

April 28, 2021

Striped Bass Sacramento River

We are still continuing to catch nice striped bass out of Colusa launching from the Tisdale boat ramp. Most of the action is out of that ramp so get up early because it's busy during the weekends.

April 30, 2021

Sacramento River Wild Rainbow Trout

With some clouds around the trout didn't seem to bother these fish. Early morning the bite is on fire but as the day is going on the bite slows down. We are casting spoons and drifting eggs is the best way to catch large numbers of these fish. Today 25 fish in the net Redding to Anderson is fantastic.
